My Story:

My name is Megan Lawrence, and I am the creator of Garden Box Bakery. For as long as I can remember, I have loved baking and wanted to open my own bakery. Due to the financial pressure of having a stable job, I put my dream on hold to pursue a higher education. In my first year of college, I studied abroad in Italy. During that time, I took a farm-to-table food class and became culinary editor for my campus newspaper, which allowed me to interview various restaurant owners. Everything I understood about baking changed. I fell in love with this lifestyle, it was simple, yet rich with flavor. When I came home, I spent months baking and taught myself how to make everything that I now sell. Each of my baked goods reflects the values I took home from Italy that inspire me daily. I am planning for the ingredients I use in Garden Box Bakery pastries to be locally sourced. I want my baked goods to not only taste delicious but also for my customers to feel good about what they are eating and supporting. I am a college student with a dream, thank you for helping make it a reality.

My Sustainability Goals:

While I still have a lot to progress on, my goal is for Garden Box Bakery to be sustainable and environmentally conscious. The farm-to-table practice is very important to me and I want to support local farmers in the area by using their fresh produce in my products. This is where the name Garden Box comes from, my dad and I sourced many of our ingredients from our garden box growing up, and I want to be able to support local “garden boxes” with my bakery. For ingredients that I cannot derive locally, such as olive oil and sugar, I want to support high-quality earth-conscious brands. As I achieve these goals, I will update this section on my progress!
